About the studio · Apartment 12G

A product photo is finished when you forget someone took it.

We don’t style your goods into someone else’s. We light them. We turn them once. Then we step out of the frame.

No props that outshine the product. No filters named after cities. The thing, the floor, the light — and nothing in between.

Why the name

A cobbler doesn’t redesign the shoe.

He resoles it. Cleans the welt. Hands it back looking more like itself than the day it came in. That is the whole job. It was also the whole idea.

The first parcel to reach this room was a friend’s leather wallets — six of them, folded in a tea towel. There was a roll of seamless paper, a window facing east, and an afternoon. The pictures that worked were the ones where nothing had been added.

Nothing added. Everything seen.

The lane is the street we photograph for. The potter. The leatherworker. The one-person candle company with a waitlist. People whose hands are busy making — who sell by the photograph, and can’t lose a Saturday to a light stand.

So the box comes to us. It gets a shelf. It gets the morning. It goes home in its own tissue, and the photographs follow by link.

What stays · what goes

What the brush is allowed to touch.

Retouching is where most product photos tell their small lies. Ours keep the evidence of the making — and lose only what landed on it afterward.

Retouch rules by material: what stays in the photograph and what is removed
MaterialStaysGoes
Leather The grain. The pores. A stitch sitting slightly proud. Lint, dust, a thumbprint on the clasp.
Glazed ceramic The drip, the pinhole, the foot left raw. Our softbox, reflected in the shine. A stray hair.
Linen & knits The slub. The hem turned by hand. Pills, loose threads, the crease from your mailer.
Silver & brass Hammer marks. The warmth a patina earns. The photographer, mirrored in the curve.
Dyed goods The color under 5000K, matched with the piece in hand. A monitor’s guess. A slider pushed too far.
The floor One soft shadow, so it knows where it stands. A cutout hovering over nothing.

The tools are few. None of them hurry.

A photograph is mostly patience and a handful of plain things. Here they are, tagged the way we tag your parcel.

  • NO. 01

    Seamless paper

A nine-foot roll of white. Torn fresh for every set, so no footprint ever reaches the frame.

  • NO. 02

    The slow table

A turntable that stops thirty-six times — once every ten degrees. Nobody has ever asked it to rush.

  • NO. 03

    A grey card

Eighteen percent grey, held beside your piece before the first frame. Every color starts here.

  • NO. 04

    The 5000K lamp

Daylight in a box. Your dye is matched to the object under it, never to a screen.

  • NO. 05

    A goat-hair brush

For dust on leather and glaze. Soft enough that the grain doesn’t notice it passing.

  • NO. 06

    Cotton gloves

White, washed every week. Silver and glass are only ever touched through them.

Carrying it up yourself?

Most goods arrive by courier. Some arrive in someone’s arms.

If you’re in the city and would rather hand the box over, write first. We’ll meet you downstairs, take it up to the twelfth floor, and give it a shelf the same hour.
